Students have the opportunity to learn in various areas including but not restricted to immuno-oncology, molecular biology and cell biology. A co-op student would be responsible for maintaining cell lines, purifying primary human lymphocyte populations, differentiating T cell and myeloid cell subtypes, assisting with in vitro T cell-based assays and in vivo studies, plasmid design and construction, in vitro transcription, viral vector production and many others.
What initially drew me to MiNK for my first co-op was the innovative research being done. I was given the opportunity to learn many techniques like cell culture, flow cytometry, and transfection, among others. Even though I did not have an immunology background, everyone was happy to teach and to provide me resources to get up to speed. I was happy to be given my own project to execute independently and felt like a contributing member to the team. What brought me back to MiNK rather than my other co-ops after graduation was the work environment. Our tiny team is full of intelligent and dedicated people who are passionate about the work we do, and who go out of their way to help each other. I am in my 2nd year with MiNK and feel like I am constantly learning and growing each day!

I really enjoyed the competitive edge the company had as well as the focus on immuno-oncology which was my passion since being introduced to the field. I chose to apply for a Co-op at MiNK because of the unique position they are in as a company as a smaller biotechnology subsidiary within a larger parent company. I thought a position on the research and development team would provide unique, detailed insight into research collaboration, pipeline development, and cutting-edge cancer therapeutics research that I would not been able to experience at any other company. The reason why I accepted this position and am excited to come to work each day, however, is because of the people I have been able to work with and learn from. We will collaborate on different projects based on what procedures need to be performed, and this coupled with weekly research presentations allowed for me to learn far beyond the scope of my own projects.
